An Action Research by Mukesh Raut
Topic
The problem of
students' less interest in Computer subject.
1. Introduction
It is needless to
say that ICT has drastically changed our way of living. It has played vital
role in everyone's life to make them global citizens and the world a global
village. We have become faster than ever due to the technology.
Therefore, everyone
wants to know about technology, use technology and teach others about
technology. Government in all around the world is forcing/giving emphasis to
make their country technologically rich. Talking about Nepal, the government
has also emphasized to make the country technologically fulfilled. For this, it
has practiced so many things to enhance the use of technology. In addition, one
example can be given that it has applied the course of computer in school's
curriculum as optional subject. However, unfortunately, it is not happening so,
in the context of Nepal.
1.2 Statement of
the Problem
The teacher tries
to give his best through his explanations and way of teaching but they seem to
be bored and sleepy. However, it is notable that when they are taken to
computer class, they seem to be quite uninterested. However, in class they pay
zero attention. It has become very difficult to make the class joyful along
with successful teaching learning activities.
1.3 Objective of
the study
The main
objective of my study is to:
- find
out why students do not show their interest towards computer learning.
-
increase students participation in computer teaching learning
activities.
1.4 Significance of
the study
The study will be significant because it will help
me and all other teachers to cope with these types of problems and teach
accordingly.
2. Review of the
related literature
For this research,
I used the researches of other teachers such as Dambar Thapa's research on,
"why students want only interesting things" and Lal prashad Ghimire's
research on "Why Students Sleep in the Class." I used these researches
only for reference; I did not fully depend on them.
3. Methodology
The
following methodologies were adopted while carrying out this research.
3.1 Primary Source of Data
The
primary sources of data were the students of class six, seven, eight.
3.2 Secondary Sources of Data
I
used the following as the secondary sources of data:
-
Interview
-
Research Papers
-
Library
-
Internet
3.3 Process of Data Collection
First of all, I taught computer once
again to observe the students reaction. I conducted the interview and called
the students to tell the reason. I consulted library and internet to get even
more authentic data, I read research papers on internet, downloaded some files
for further study.
4. Presentation,
Analysis and Interpretation
After collecting
the data, I found many shocking answers why the students do not pay attention
to the computer class. Some answers given by students are:
- I don't understand.
- I feel bored.
- It is not interesting, sir?
- The computer class is too far from us.
- There are less computer.
- We do not get chance to use computer.
From these answers
and from my own study, it becomes clearer that many students do not want to study
because it is difficult to understand without real computer use. In addition,
due to the distance of computer, class they do not want to go.
5. Findings and
Recommendations
5.1 Findings
From the collected
data, I found that the reasons that the students do not want to be in the
computer teaching class are:
a. Delivering
theoretical knowledge without giving them chance to practically use their knowledge, the class of computer becomes
boring and monotonous.
b. The students
become tired who comes from very far away, this is the reason why she/he do not want to go in the computer class.
c. The computer
class is too far from the school.
d. The computers in
the class are less in number.
e. Not everyone get
equal opportunity to use the computer.
5.2 Recommendations
a. The number of computers in the school should
be increased.
b. Provision should be made for the equal
participation of the
students.
c. The students should be motivated towards
learning.
d. Girls seem to be shy to use computer, so they
must be motivated
to cope with this.
e. Fearless environment should be created for
better learning.
f. Disruptive behaviour of students should be
minimized.
